Three situations with different next steps
No automatic stop
Say whether this happens occasionally or is a new change during ordinary use. Do not manipulate the car unsafely to create comparison conditions.
A fault is displayed
Send the complete wording and accompanying warnings. An icon description for another model is not a reliable translation for your own car.
No subsequent restart
Be clear when the issue is not simply lack of automatic stopping but a failed restart or unexpected cut-out. Safety and suitable help come before restoring the fuel-saving feature.
Why automatic stopping need not occur at every junction
The function must meet the conditions specified for the particular vehicle. Volvo handbooks give examples involving engine readiness, cabin comfort demand and electrical conditions. Those are examples from named models, not an identical checklist for every manufacturer. We do not transfer their numerical thresholds or required sequence of stops to other cars.
A short winter journey and a longer warm journey may create different conditions, but that comparison is not a diagnosis. The display may also distinguish ordinary unavailability, deliberate deactivation and a fault. If the handbook does not make the situation clear, an exact photograph and description are sufficient for a first enquiry. You are not expected to identify a failed sensor before contacting the workshop.
An inactive function does not automatically order a new battery
Battery state can be part of the system's decision, but inactive start-stop does not by itself establish battery wear. Charge, condition and charging-system findings need context. Separate the function complaint from slow ordinary starting or repeated overnight discharge when booking. These are different starting points and should not be combined into one assumed battery diagnosis.
If a battery was recently replaced, provide the date, available specification and work record. A sequence of events alone cannot establish missing registration or an incorrect component. The required procedure and the workshop's available capability must be confirmed for the vehicle. This article does not promise coding, support-battery work or intervention in every hybrid-system design; a general start-stop enquiry is not approval for specialised electrical work.
Do not bypass conditions to force the function to operate
Do not disconnect a battery sensor, bypass bonnet switches or improvise wiring changes. Turning off electrical loads must not take priority over clear visibility or necessary demisting. The purpose is to investigate a new change, not to make the engine stop automatically regardless of why the vehicle currently restricts it. Existing observations are enough for the initial discussion.
An automatically stopped engine is not necessarily a safely switched-off vehicle for work under the bonnet. Volvo explicitly warns about automatic restart. Use the safe shutdown procedure for your own car and do not perform engine-bay experiments. With an actual cut-out in traffic, a failed restart or a serious warning, first arrange a safe stationary situation and appropriate assistance rather than treating it as a comfort-feature complaint.
Build a precise enquiry rather than a universal repair package
A useful message describes the change from usual behaviour: “Inactive since [time]; display says [wording]; ordinary starting is [observation]; latest known work [details].” Add the model and engine. You do not need to recreate the fault or repeatedly start the car while parked merely to complete this account. If a relevant detail is unknown, mark it honestly.
Agree an initial assessment and approval for any further work. A basic electronic scan may not include a battery test, other measurements or replacement components; the proposed items should be clear. Planned replacement of a correctly identified battery is a separate job, not the automatic solution to every start-stop message. The vehicle-specific scope, appointment and price need confirmation rather than being established by submitting the enquiry.
Your checklist before contacting the workshop
- Model, year, engine and transmission type where known.
- Exact message, warning status and behaviour of automatic and ordinary starting.
- Existing circumstances: journey length, weather, demisting or electrical demand.
- Recent work, battery replacement or discharge and available records.
Use existing observations. Email only relevant records taken while safely parked; the form does not accept attachments.
Frequently asked questions
Must the engine stop at every junction?
Not necessarily. Check the operating conditions for the particular vehicle. A single inactive stop does not establish a fault.
Does this mean a new battery is needed?
Not automatically. System requirements, charge, battery condition and other findings need distinction. Agree an appropriate assessment before ordering parts.
Should I unplug a sensor or reduce demisting as a test?
Do not bypass the system or compromise visibility. Provide existing observations and the complete message rather than creating new experiments.
Agree the next step
Tell Autoservis 1 the exact change and displayed message to discuss an appropriate assessment. Unhošťská 92, Červený Újezd, serving Unhošť, Hostivice, Kladno and Prague-West. For a car that cannot be used safely, arrange its handover before requesting an ordinary appointment through the form.
Describe inactive start-stopSources and limits
