Published 17 October 2026. General guidance; an inspection of your vehicle is still required.
The existing workshop image is illustrative; it does not document this specific fault. This guide cannot confirm whether your vehicle is safe to drive.
Separate three symptom patterns
A warm engine with cold cabin air, an engine that seems slow to warm up and weak airflow even at a higher fan setting are different observations. Note which vents are affected, whether settings change anything and whether the issue appeared suddenly. Do not drive simply to reproduce the fault.
Possible checks depend on the car
Coolant circulation, temperature regulation, heater components, air-blending controls, the fan or filter can require investigation. A thermostat is one possibility, not an automatic diagnosis. Hybrid and electric vehicles may use different heating systems; do not attempt work on high-voltage components.
Coolant loss changes the priority
Mention a falling coolant level, a warning, unusual smell or dampness in the cabin. These observations may help direct checks but do not prove a heater-matrix fault. Repeated top-ups should not substitute for finding the reason for a loss. Coolant specification is not determined by its colour.
Overheating and visibility are stop signals
If the car overheats or emits steam, stop safely, switch off and arrange assistance. Do not open a hot pressurised coolant system. If the windscreen cannot be cleared enough for safe visibility, do not continue driving just because the engine otherwise runs normally.
What will the check cost?
There is no verified universal heater-repair price. Basic fault-code reading is not the same as a complete heating-system diagnosis. Send the car details, the airflow pattern, temperature observations and any coolant warning; agree the initial investigation and further work before authorising repairs.
A useful service enquiry
Describe the symptom, when it occurs and any warning lights. Include the make, model, year and approximate mileage. Send relevant photographs or reports by email; the enquiry form does not accept attachments. Do not record or use your phone while driving.
