Published 17 October 2026. General guidance; an inspection of your vehicle is still required.
General guidance cannot confirm that your car is safe to drive. The existing workshop photo does not document the specific fault discussed here.
What to do first
With a temperature warning, steam or suspected overheating, stop safely and switch the engine off. Check the exact symbol and message in the vehicle manual; designs differ between models. Keep clear of moving traffic and escaping steam. Call from a safe location and arrange assistance, or emergency help if there is immediate danger.
Do not open a hot cap or rely on a timer
The cooling system may be pressurised and hot fluid or steam can cause serious scalding. Do not open a hot reservoir or radiator cap, or approach escaping steam. No number of minutes on this page guarantees safe handling. Do not improvise by adding cold water to a hot system, or restart merely to see whether the warning disappears.
Cooling down is not a repair
A lower gauge reading after switching off does not establish that cooling works correctly. Do not continue simply because the car has stood or visible steam has stopped. The circumstances cannot remotely establish safe driving or justify ordering a thermostat, pump or head gasket. Arrange suitable help or transport and checks based on the actual findings.
Useful context for the workshop
Record the exact message and whether it happened in traffic, during ordinary driving or following recent repairs. Mention earlier coolant loss, heating trouble and other warnings if already observed. There is no need to reproduce those conditions. Photograph the dashboard only while safely stationary, and do not return to danger for a picture.
Overheating and gradual coolant loss are different concerns
This guide is about an acute temperature warning and the next safe step. Recording levels under the manufacturer's prescribed conditions belongs in the separate coolant-loss guide, not an investigation beside a hot engine. A correct level does not rule out another overheating cause. Hybrid and electric-vehicle warnings may involve other circuits; do not work on high-voltage components.
Inspection scope and a clear quote
First identify the vehicle and agree safe handover. The required scope follows the symptoms and checks of the particular system; code reading alone cannot assess every mechanical cause. An enquiry does not confirm a price, immediate appointment or repairs without further approval. There is no fixed repair price or damage estimate without findings. This website does not promise round-the-clock mobile assistance from the workshop.
Frequently asked questions
Can I continue once it cools?
Cooling does not remove the cause. After a warning or steam, discuss the safe next step and transport before continuing.
Does a correct coolant level mean cooling is working?
The level alone does not establish system operation. An acute temperature warning calls for a safe stop and professional assessment.
Agree the next step safely
Autoservis 1 is at Unhošťská 92, Červený Újezd, near Unhošť, Hostivice, Kladno and Prague-West. For acute safety concerns, seek appropriate assistance rather than waiting for an email. An enquiry does not confirm a price, appointment or that the car can be driven.
Send only relevant details
Relevant photos or records can be emailed; the form does not accept attachments. Remove unrelated personal information. Take photos only when safely stationary and never approach danger just to document a fault.
