Practical advice
What symptoms to watch for
Common signs include knocking over bumps, noise from the wheels, vibration in the steering wheel, the car pulling to one side or unstable handling in corners. Uneven tyre wear is also a warning sign.
Why not to delay the check
Chassis play usually gets worse over time. The car may brake worse, hold direction less accurately and wear tyres faster. An early check helps separate minor issues from urgent repairs.
What to write in the request
Describe when the sound or vibration appears: braking, cornering, bumps, higher speed or pulling away. It also helps to add the make, model, mileage and whether the issue is getting worse.
How the check works
We inspect the car according to the symptoms, focusing on play, mounting points, shock absorbers, ball joints, arms, visible damage and links to tyres and brakes. Then we suggest the next step.
When not to delay a chassis check
- the car knocks over bumps
- the steering wheel vibrates or the car pulls aside
- tyres wear unevenly
- the car feels unstable in corners
- handling changed after hitting a pothole
