Czech STK/MOT preparation
A pre-STK check helps find visible issues before inspection
STK is the Czech mandatory technical inspection. Many foreign drivers compare it to MOT in the UK or periodic roadworthiness inspection in other countries. The inspection is performed by an STK station, not by the workshop.
A technical inspection is easier when the car is maintained. Problems often come from overlooked details: lights, brakes, tyres, leaks or chassis play.
At Autoservis 1, Czech STK preparation means a practical check of common risk areas. The goal is not to guarantee the result, but to reduce avoidable problems.
If we find an issue, we explain whether it matters for safety, STK or future use.
If you are looking for the informational side of the topic, including what to prepare or bring, the related advice page how to prepare a car for Czech STK and what to bring covers that. This service page focuses on booking the actual pre-inspection check.
What makes sense to check before STK
- lights, tyres, brakes and visible fluid leaks
- noise, play or knocking from the chassis
- dashboard warning lights and basic diagnostics
- common service items that may complicate inspection
How preparation works
- we ask about the STK date and known issues
- we inspect common risk areas
- we suggest repairs by priority
- work is done only after customer approval
Do not leave STK preparation to the last day
The workshop is useful for drivers from Červený Újezd, Unhošť, Prague-West, Hostivice, Rudná, Kladno, Jeneč and Zličín. The address at Unhošťská 92 makes routine checks easier without driving into central Prague.
If issues are found too late, there may not be enough time for parts or repair. A short check in advance is usually more practical.
What to include in an STK preparation request
Write the STK expiry date, known issues, dashboard warnings and whether you already have an inspection report. If you have a report, attach it as a PDF or photo. English requests are welcome; you do not need to know the Czech name of the faulty part. This helps us judge whether a short pre-check is enough or whether vehicle diagnostics should be included too.
STK arranged for you: we can take the car to the inspection
If you prefer not to visit the Czech STK station yourself, we can take the car there for you by arrangement. We usually combine it with a pre-inspection check so the car leaves without known faults. The arrangement fee is agreed in advance based on the car and date; the STK station fee is paid by the customer. The inspection result is always decided by the STK station.
FAQ about Czech STK preparation
Does the Czech STK include an emissions check?
Yes, the emissions measurement is part of the STK and is performed by the station. Before the inspection we check the engine, warning lights and exhaust — typical reasons cars fail the emissions part.
Can you arrange the STK inspection for me?
Yes. By arrangement we take the car to the STK station for you, usually after a pre-inspection check. The arrangement fee is agreed in advance; the station fee is paid by the customer.
What is Czech STK or MOT?
STK is the Czech mandatory technical inspection, similar to MOT in the UK or a roadworthiness inspection in other countries.
Can you guarantee the car will pass STK?
No. STK is performed by the inspection station. We help find visible issues before the test.
When should I book before STK?
A few days or weeks before the inspection is better than the last moment.
Can I send the STK preparation request in English?
Yes. English written requests are welcome. If you have an STK report, attach a photo or PDF and describe the issue in plain words.
Do you check diagnostics too?
If the car has a warning light or suspected electronic fault, diagnostics makes sense before STK.
