Practical advice
How often to change oil
Follow the manufacturer interval, but cars used mainly for short trips often benefit from a shorter interval. Cold starts and city driving are harder on oil.
What to change with oil
The oil filter is normally changed too. Depending on the car, cabin, air or fuel filters may also be checked or replaced.
Why the correct oil matters
Oil is not just about viscosity. Manufacturer specification matters, especially for modern engines and cars with emissions systems.
What to include in the request
Make, model, year, engine and VIN help. If you do not have them, we can still agree the next step.
What to include in an oil service enquiry
- oil has not been changed for over a year
- mostly short city trips
- unknown oil type
- service interval is due
- filters and fluids need checking
Practical next step
The useful question is not just what might be wrong, but how urgent it is. A minor recurring symptom can usually be sent through the enquiry form. Anything involving brakes, steering, warning lights, leaks, loss of power or a car that cannot be driven safely is worth a phone call before you keep driving.
What to write before booking
Send the make, model, engine, mileage and the last known oil change date. If the service history is unknown, say that directly. Include the make, model, year, approximate mileage and when the symptom appears. A photo of a warning light, leak, worn tyre, STK report or previous diagnostic result is often more useful than a long description.
How the workshop decides priority
First we separate safety-critical issues from routine service items. Brakes, steering, heavy leaks, smoke, serious noises, red warning lights and cars that cannot be driven safely take priority. We only start repair work once the finding and the agreed next step are clear.
Frequently asked questions
Can I still drive with this issue?
A normal oil change can be booked by request. A red oil pressure warning or engine noise is different and should be checked before further driving.
What should I include in the request?
Send the make, model, engine, mileage and the last known oil change date. If the service history is unknown, say that directly.
When is calling safer?
Call if the red oil warning light is on, the engine sounds unusual or there is a visible oil leak under the car.
