Three different observations to describe
Vibration while stationary
Say where you feel it: seat, steering wheel or dashboard. Include whether the engine was cold or warm; the rev counter alone does not provide a diagnosis.
A knock as drive takes up
Describe the normal situation in which it already happened. Do not repeat harsh starts or direction changes merely to reproduce it.
A symptom at a particular road speed
This is different from a stationary car vibrating. Do not order an engine mount because someone has used the general word “bush”.
An engine mount is not a suspension-arm bush
ZF explains that engine and gearbox mounts support the powertrain and reduce vibration and noise reaching the body. Rubber, hydraulic and controlled designs exist. The word “mount” alone therefore does not identify the component or required procedure.
Use the exact wording of an inspection report where possible. A right-hand engine mount and a suspension bush are not interchangeable quotation items. If you do not know the term, describe the symptom rather than guessing and ask which area the assessment will cover.
A steady rev counter does not exclude another cause
Separate whether the engine is running unevenly from how its running is felt inside the car. These situations can overlap. An assessment should not jump directly to ordering a mount just because the seat shakes.
Mention a warning light, changing engine speed or significant power loss at the initial enquiry. Vibration linked mainly to road speed needs a different starting description from vibration while parked. One component may not explain every symptom you have noticed.
What an assessment should clarify
Agree a vehicle-specific inspection and ask for confirmed damage to be separated from further suspicions. If replacement is recommended, ask which mount is involved and why the finding explains the complaint. If that connection remains uncertain, the explanation should say so.
A photograph of a wet area or crack can help communicate a finding; it is not an instruction for assessing roadworthiness yourself. Do not crawl underneath without professionally secured access or reach towards a running engine.
Agreeing a mount-replacement quotation
The correct component and access to it vary with the engine, gearbox and vehicle design. That is why there is no single price here for “all the mounts”. A quotation should identify the affected mounting, suitable part, labour and conditions for extending the work.
Questions before approval
- Which mount is being replaced and which were only inspected?
- Does the proposed component suit this exact vehicle variant?
- Are necessary associated operations and materials included?
- Will any additional fault be discussed before further work starts?
What to prepare and what not to try
Mention recent work involving the engine, gearbox or clutch and when the symptoms began. A timeline does not blame a previous workshop or prove a cause; it simply helps establish a sensible starting point.
Do not improvise an engine support or attempt a home load test with a gear engaged. With severe impacts, visibly abnormal powertrain movement or rapid deterioration, stop safely and agree the next step, including recovery where appropriate. Work on a particular controlled mounting system must be confirmed in advance.
Your checklist before contacting the workshop
- Make, model, year, engine and gearbox type.
- Whether vibration occurs at rest, as drive takes up or at a certain speed, and where you feel it.
- Cold or warm engine, warning lights and other symptoms already observed.
- A previous mounting report and recent relevant work, if known.
Use existing observations. Email only relevant records taken while safely parked; the form does not accept attachments.
Frequently asked questions
Must all engine and gearbox mounts be replaced together?
There is no universal rule. Ask for the condition of the individual mounts and the reason for every proposed replacement.
Does vibration at idle prove a mount has failed?
No. Engine running must be distinguished from vibration transmission, with the other symptoms taken into account.
Can removal of all vibration be promised beforehand?
Not without establishing the cause. Agree the purpose of the inspection and how the repair result will be assessed rather than assuming every vibration will disappear.
Agree the next step
Autoservis 1 is at Unhošťská 92, Červený Újezd. Tell us when and where you feel the vibration so we can agree the available assessment before a visit. An enquiry is not a confirmed diagnosis, price or appointment.
