New brakes squeal or vibrate: when to contact the workshop

A new sound or vibration appears after pads or discs were replaced. Calling them new brakes neither proves that everything is sound nor establishes defective replacement parts. The actual symptom and previous work matter.

The short answer

Report a new or returning symptom to the workshop that performed the repair and agree the next step. Reduced braking, a changed pedal, severe vibration, a strong pull, grinding, smoke or leakage requires a safe stop and suitable help before further travel. Do not attempt to cure it with repeated hard braking.

  • Separate squealing, grinding and vibration.
  • Provide the date, mileage and actual parts replaced.
  • Bedding in does not explain every new symptom.

Compare before and after the repair

Say whether the sound began at collection, appeared later or is the original complaint persisting. Give the approximate mileage since repair and the axle involved. An itemised record is more useful than saying the whole braking system was replaced.

If another workshop did the work, contact it first with the description. If you want a subsequent assessment here, provide the available record and agree a separate scope. This guide does not determine responsibility for earlier work or promise a free remedy.

Describe the sound and where vibration is felt

Distinguish a high squeal, continuous scraping and a metallic knock. With vibration, identify the steering wheel, pedal or body and whether it occurs during braking. Use only circumstances already observed in normal use, such as the first morning brake application or a warm vehicle.

Brembo explains that noise and vibration need not originate in a defective new part; other braking-system components and their interaction may matter. That supports inspection rather than automatically buying another pad brand. A phone recording cannot close an investigation into a new change.

Follow the instructions for the actual components

New friction components can have a specified introduction-to-use procedure. Ask for the guidance appropriate to the installed parts and your vehicle. Mileage guidance for another product is not a period during which every concern should be ignored.

Brembo’s post-replacement guidance includes monitoring noise and vibration and warns of overheating from harsh braking. It is not a reason to perform repeated high-speed stops on public roads. Once a warning symptom appears, assessment takes priority over completing a chosen distance.

When not to wait for a routine appointment

With reduced braking, an abnormal pedal, severe vibration, a strong pull, grinding, smoke or leakage, stop safely and arrange suitable help before continuing. Call from a safe place. Do not wait for an email reply in an urgent situation.

Do not touch a hot disc or wheel, cool it with water or spray lubricant or a noise treatment on friction surfaces. Do not raise the car beside traffic or reproduce severe vibration to obtain a recording.

Agree assessment and any further work

Establish what the initial assessment is intended to check and how findings will be explained. A further proposal should relate to the reported symptom, rather than merely recommend replacing everything again. Agree approval of parts and labour before expanding the job.

Without findings, no price, single-component repair or elimination of every sound can be promised. Specify whether this is new behaviour after repair or a routine wear assessment. That keeps the current concern distinct from other scheduled maintenance.

Details for your enquiry

  • Vehicle, repair date and mileage then and now, where known.
  • Axle and actual components shown on the invoice.
  • New or original sound, vibration location and circumstances already observed.
  • Other warnings, braking changes and the present safe parked state.

Use existing observations. Email relevant photographs or reports; the form does not accept attachments. Do not collect records while driving.

Frequently asked questions

Is every new-brake squeal normal?

That cannot be established without context and assessment. Report a new or returning symptom; warning signs should not wait for completion of bedding in.

Should I perform several hard stops?

Do not attempt a universal road test. Use the instructions for the actual components and address any safety concern first.

Does vibration prove poor-quality discs?

The symptom alone does not identify a failed component or establish responsibility. Supporting findings from the relevant system matter.

What if another workshop did the repair?

Inform that workshop first. A separate assessment at Autoservis 1 can be discussed using the available records and vehicle condition.

Agree the next step

Send Autoservis 1 the vehicle details and your request to agree the available scope, price and appointment. Find us at Unhošťská 92, Červený Újezd, near Unhošť, Hostivice, Kladno and Prague-West. An enquiry does not confirm a safe journey. The phone operates Mon–Fri 8:30–17:00; arrange urgent roadside help separately.
