Pad wear, ABS or a red brake warning?
Volkswagen describes its amber pad indicator as a warning of worn pads. That is a manufacturer example, not a definition of every dashboard picture. Check your model’s handbook and take any photograph only while safely parked.
ABS concerns a different system area from wear monitoring. Do not automatically treat a red warning or several messages together as a routine pad-change request. Report every symbol and any changed vehicle behaviour. If the meaning is unclear, resolve the instructions before continuing, using the handbook and appropriate professional help.
Why no remaining mileage can be promised
One message cannot describe every pad, the discs or the complete braking system. The previous service date helps establish history, but does not confirm current condition. Normal braking so far, or a short distance to the workshop, cannot establish a safe journey.
Do not wait for grinding or a changed pedal to prove that the lamp was right. If those symptoms have already occurred, report them immediately rather than testing another journey. A view through the wheel is not a complete brake assessment; you need not raise the car or remove a wheel to prepare an enquiry.
A warning after pad replacement
If the message appeared or remained after repair, provide the date, mileage and itemised work. Say whether it was present beforehand. Neither assume the new pads are already worn nor dismiss the message as harmless: the actual vehicle and findings need checking.
Ask what was checked in the brakes and their wear-monitoring arrangement. Do not bridge wires, disconnect a sensor or follow a warning-suppression tutorial. The procedure must suit the vehicle. A returning message is a reason to share the history, rather than repeatedly reset it.
The assessment and the repair quotation
Request assessment of the actual message rather than ordering a complete brake assembly in advance. Give the vehicle, mileage, other symptoms and latest known work. Agree the initial scope and suitable handover based on the car’s condition. A form submission does not approve a journey or reserve an appointment.
If findings support replacement, the proposal should identify the axle, suitable parts, labour and associated items. Ask why each is recommended and what needs separate approval. A code-reading charge is not automatically a mechanical brake-check or repair price. There is no final repair figure here without supporting findings.
Details for your enquiry
- Make, model, year and approximate mileage.
- Exact message, other warnings and when they appeared.
- Any existing change in pedal, braking, sound, smell or leakage.
- Latest brake-work record and the car’s current safe parked location.
Use existing observations. Email relevant photographs or reports; the form does not accept attachments. Do not collect records while driving.
Frequently asked questions
Is the pad warning the same as ABS?
No. They are different warnings. Use the exact symbol and handbook wording, and report every message if several appear together.
How many kilometres can I still drive?
No universal safe remaining distance can be promised. Follow the vehicle instructions and arrange assessment without delay; serious symptoms require a safe stop first.
Must the discs be replaced too?
The warning alone does not establish that scope. Inspection findings and the particular braking system’s requirements determine suitable parts.
Is clearing the warning enough?
Clearing does not repair wear or explain the message. Establish the cause and agree the correct next step first.
Agree the next step
Send Autoservis 1 the vehicle details and your request to agree the available scope, price and appointment. Find us at Unhošťská 92, Červený Újezd, near Unhošť, Hostivice, Kladno and Prague-West. An enquiry does not confirm a safe journey. The phone operates Mon–Fri 8:30–17:00; arrange urgent roadside help separately.
Discuss a brake assessmentSources and vehicle instructions
Manufacturer references explain general principles; they do not diagnose your vehicle or confirm that every specialist operation is available here. Follow the actual vehicle and component instructions.
