OBD readiness before a Czech emissions test: what to check

The warning has gone out and the app lists no fault, but another screen says “not ready”. Those readings need not contradict one another. Before an emissions appointment, distinguish fault memory, monitor status and the result of an actual inspection.

The short answer

Readiness describes whether relevant emissions-system self-checks have been completed. It is different from a fault-code list. Some servicing or power-supply events can leave checks incomplete. Keep the full report and event history, then agree the next step for your vehicle. This guide gives neither Czech pass/fail limits nor a universal route for completing monitors.

  • Separate not ready, a recorded fault and a monitor the vehicle does not support.
  • Report recent clearing, replacement or disconnection of the battery where known.
  • Do not clear the data again or try unusual driving to force a result.

Three different kinds of information

Fault memory

Codes and their status describe diagnostic findings. An empty list without knowing whether it was cleared is not the complete history of the car.

Monitor status

Keep the exact labels and values shown by the tool. Do not automatically translate unsupported as unfinished or as a failed emissions component.

Station report

If testing has already occurred, send the complete report. Further preparation should respond to its actual conclusion rather than one coloured app icon.

Why readiness is different from a warning turning off

Self-checking functions require conditions defined for the relevant system. An incomplete check is not itself a list of broken parts, but neither is it confirmation that everything is sound. The available readings should therefore be considered together. This guide explains that technical distinction rather than treating a general-purpose app's colour scheme as an official emissions assessment.

Ford's model-specific handbook explains how servicing or battery events can affect readiness. It also describes checks for the specified vehicle and market. Do not transfer its flash counting, exact timing or drive cycle to every car. Another model can require different conditions and diagnostic information. The US handbook is a source for the technical principle, not the rules of Czech emissions testing.

What to report before booking and before the station visit

Say whether there was a fault repair, battery replacement, battery discharge or merely a code-clear operation. Add the available date and mileage. If no such event is known, say that too: an unfinished status should not be explained by guessing what usually happens on another model. It is better to mark missing history than to invent a complete sequence.

Tell the testing station about the known event and available report before the appointment, and agree any scheduling change with it. A workshop assessment, an electronic report and official emissions testing have different scopes. Arranging preparation through this website does not mean that it operates an emissions station or guarantees an outcome. Czech SME means an emissions testing station; it is not simply another name for a repair workshop.

There is no universal mileage to a ready status here

“Drive a certain distance and it will be ready” is not an adequate instruction without the vehicle details. The system, conditions and findings matter. Faults that make driving unsafe must be addressed before further use. The goal is not to complete monitors at any cost but to establish an appropriate next step for the particular car and its existing symptoms.

Do not disable safety systems, manipulate sensors or repeatedly reset the data as preparation for testing. A serious warning, marked misfire, overheating or fluid loss takes priority: stop safely and arrange appropriate help. An emissions appointment is not a reason to continue with a dangerous symptom. This page supplies no accelerated drive cycle, test-mode activation or workaround for an unresolved fault.

Confirm Czech assessment requirements for the actual vehicle

The Czech Ministry of Transport publishes methodological documents and manufacturer statements. The sources include the explicitly dated version 2020.12 rev.5; it is not presented as verification of every current rule and exception. We therefore give no permitted count of incomplete monitors and do not claim that a particular status always means failure. The relevant SME assesses the vehicle using the applicable current information.

Agree the workshop scope for reading data, explaining findings and any further work. A basic diagnostics item does not automatically pay for repairs or the official emissions test. The exact report and history allow a clearer initial brief without promising a result, replacing parts at random or repeatedly deleting information. If testing already failed, begin with the station's full report rather than using this guide as an appeal or legal interpretation.

Your checklist before contacting the workshop

  • Make, model, year, engine and fuel type.
  • Full report of supported monitors, their status and any fault codes.
  • Known servicing, battery events and memory clearing with available date and mileage.
  • The appointment and complete previous station report, if one exists.

Use existing observations. Email only relevant records taken while safely parked; the form does not accept attachments.

Frequently asked questions

Does not ready prove the catalytic converter has failed?

No. An incomplete self-check does not identify a failed component. Its context and other findings need assessment for the vehicle.

How far must I drive?

No single distance applies to every vehicle and monitor. Follow an appropriate vehicle-specific procedure; driving is not a substitute for addressing an unsafe condition.

Does ready guarantee a successful Czech emissions test?

No. Readiness is one technical input, not the complete official test result. Current requirements and the result are assessed by the relevant station for the car.

Agree the next step

Send Autoservis 1 the available report and event history before agreeing preparation. The workshop is at Unhošťská 92, Červený Újezd, serving Unhošť, Hostivice, Kladno and Prague-West. An enquiry confirms neither a testing appointment nor a repair price or emissions result.
