Three different parts of the report
Exact code
P0300 differs from P0301. Include every character and any suffix. A cylinder number is not its physical position in the engine bay; use the correct engine documentation.
Record status
Preserve whether the tool reports an active, pending or other status. An earlier record and a fault happening now should not automatically be treated as identical.
Actual behaviour
Say whether the engine shook, hesitated under load or felt unchanged. Include what the warning light did and why the scan was performed, without deciding the coil is faulty.
What the code describes, and what it cannot establish
Ford's code table distinguishes P0300 from individual-cylinder misfire records. That helps interpret a report but cannot replace the procedure for your car. A code does not contain a repair price or establish that a particular component beside the named cylinder has failed. A short general translation may also omit useful information available from a more complete assessment.
Misfire is sometimes simplified to an ignition fault. Depending on the engine, investigating the cause may also involve fuel or mechanical condition. The linked Ford technical bulletin illustrates this distinction for specified models. Its workshop procedure and tools are not universal instructions for every petrol or diesel vehicle, nor evidence that the selected workshop offers every test described.
Keep the context before clearing the memory
Save the full available report, date, mileage and accompanying messages. If the tool captured operating information when the fault arose, include that too. You do not need another app purchase or a change to control-unit settings merely to prepare an enquiry. If the age of a record is unknown, mark that uncertainty rather than presenting it as a new event.
Mention recent repairs, refuelling or the last documented spark-plug replacement where relevant and known. Timing alone cannot prove the cause. Clearing codes solely to turn off a warning can remove useful context for the initial discussion. A warning that stays off immediately after a reset does not document a successful repair or make further driving a suitable diagnostic experiment.
When safe parking takes priority over collecting data
A flashing engine warning and markedly irregular running can involve a risk of further damage, including to the catalytic converter. Stop safely, follow your own vehicle's warnings and handbook, and arrange the next step. Do not continue merely to obtain another scan or discover whether the warning will flash again. Remote interpretation cannot approve a journey to the workshop.
Do not disconnect ignition or injection components with the engine running, repeatedly rev the engine or leave it running in an enclosed space. Specialist workshop tests are not roadside troubleshooting instructions. If the car cannot be used safely, assistance or transport needs a separate arrangement before handover; submitting an enquiry does not arrange recovery or provide an emergency service.
Reading a code, investigating it and repairing the cause are separate scopes
When booking, explain that you already have a report and want the cause checked. Agree the initial scope and the point at which the workshop will contact you with findings. A basic scan charge does not automatically include further measurements, dismantling or replacement components. Availability of the appropriate assessment needs confirmation for the particular engine before work is authorised.
A repair proposal should explain which finding supports the recommended action and separate labour and materials. Do not order every coil as a precaution based on one phone screen. Documented scheduled maintenance may be a separate sensible job, but it should not be presented as the confirmed repair for the current misfire without the relevant findings. Clear approval points make the two requests easier to distinguish.
Your checklist before contacting the workshop
- Make, model, year and exact engine where known.
- Complete P0300–P0304 report, other codes and available captured operating data.
- Warning-light behaviour, first occurrence and existing observations of engine running.
- Relevant recent work, records and the car's safe parked location.
Use existing observations. Email only relevant records taken while safely parked; the form does not accept attachments.
Frequently asked questions
Does P0301 automatically mean a faulty ignition coil?
No. A record associated with one cylinder does not identify the failed component by itself. The engine specification and further findings determine an appropriate investigation.
Should I clear it and see whether it returns?
Preserve the original available data before discussing the assessment. Resetting is not a repair, and another drive to recreate the problem is not appropriate.
Is this a repair procedure for every engine?
No. It explains general code interpretation and enquiry preparation. Engine design, additional data, available tests and the repair procedure must be confirmed for the vehicle.
Agree the next step
Send Autoservis 1 the exact report and vehicle details to discuss an appropriate initial scope. With a dangerous symptom, call from a safe place before travelling. The workshop is at Unhošťská 92, Červený Újezd, serving Unhošť, Hostivice, Kladno and Prague-West.
Discuss a P0300–P0304 assessmentSources and limits
Published 24 October 2026. Sources explain general principles, not a diagnosis of your vehicle. Follow the instructions for your particular car.
