Confirm the fault before replacing the clutch
A clutch is a significant repair, and similar symptoms can have several causes. Tell us whether the problem occurs when moving off, accelerating, changing gear or reversing uphill.
We assess the condition through inspection and, where appropriate, a test drive. If wear is confirmed, we agree labour, parts and whether the flywheel or related components need attention.
Symptoms worth reporting
- Engine speed rises without a corresponding increase in road speed.
- The clutch bites very high or engages unevenly.
- Gear changes are difficult, jerky or resistant.
- A burning smell appears after moving off.

Call if you cannot select a gear, the clutch slips badly or there is a strong burning smell. If the car cannot be driven, agree a safe next step rather than attempting to drive it to the workshop.
