Parts and systems you may see on a quote
- Rozvody
- The engine’s timing drive. Ask whether the quote concerns a belt, a chain and which associated components are included.
- Spojka
- The clutch. A clutch pedal problem does not automatically mean that the complete clutch kit needs replacing.
- Podvozek
- A broad term for the chassis or undercarriage, often including suspension and related components. A “podvozek” check is not the name of one particular replacement part.
- Brzdové destičky / kotouče
- Brake pads / brake discs. Ask whether a price covers one axle, which parts and the labour.
- Ložisko kola
- Wheel bearing. A humming noise needs assessment before identifying the affected part or wheel.
Tyre and wheel work: the important distinctions
- Přezutí pneumatik
- Changing the tyres on the rims. At Autoservis 1, the complete tyre-change item covers the operation described in the tyre-service price list.
- Výměna kompletních kol
- A complete wheel-set swap: the other tyres are already fitted to their own rims.
- Vyvážení kol
- Wheel balancing. It addresses the balance of the rotating wheel assembly.
- Geometrie kol
- Wheel alignment: checking or adjusting wheel angles according to the vehicle requirements. It is different from balancing. Confirm availability before requesting an alignment appointment.
- Defekt
- A puncture or tyre damage in everyday workshop language. Whether a tyre can be repaired depends on inspection.
STK and emissions
STK can refer to the technical-inspection station or, in everyday use, the Czech roadworthiness inspection. A workshop pre-check is different from the official inspection. Měření emisí means emissions measurement. When sending a report, include the full document so the workshop can distinguish inspection findings from an assumption about the cause. See Czech STK preparation.
Words that change how a price should be read
- Práce
- Labour. Parts, fluids and consumables may be separate.
- Materiál / díly
- Materials / parts. Ask which specification or part is included.
- Od
- “From”: a starting price, not a guaranteed total for every car.
- Orientační cena
- An indicative price. Confirm the scope and how additional work will be approved.
- Nejsme plátci DPH
- “We are not VAT-registered.” Autoservis 1 does not add VAT to its listed prices.
Describe a symptom without naming a part
“The steering wheel shakes when I brake” is more useful than an uncertain part name. Include when the issue occurs, warning messages and recent changes. You can write your enquiry in English. If a report contains an unfamiliar abbreviation, send the relevant report by email instead of guessing its meaning. The quote guide explains the questions to ask before approving work.
Frequently asked questions
Is Czech STK the same as a UK MOT?
They are comparable types of roadworthiness inspection, but the procedures and requirements are not interchangeable. Ask about the Czech inspection for your vehicle.
Are wheel balancing and alignment the same service?
No. Balancing concerns the rotating wheel assembly; alignment concerns wheel angles. Describe the symptom and confirm the proposed work.
Do I need a technical translation to send an enquiry?
No. Plain English describing the problem is enough to begin the discussion.
