Understanding a car repair quote in Czechia

A useful quote explains the work, the parts and what happens if the inspection reveals something else. These questions help you compare like with like before approving a repair.

Prepared 21 October 2026 · Autoservis 1

First check what the figure covers

Ask whether the amount is for labour only or includes parts, fluids and other materials. A price for changing engine oil may cover the work but not the oil or filter. A starting price marked “from” is not a fixed total for every engine. At Autoservis 1, the price list identifies labour-only items and starting prices. We are not VAT-registered, so VAT is not added to our listed prices.

Diagnosis and repair are separate decisions

For an unclear fault, agree the initial investigation before asking for a final repair total. Reading fault codes can be the first step, but measurements or further checks may be needed to identify the cause. Ask what the first price covers and how you will approve further investigation. A fault-code scan is not a promise that the cause can be repaired for the same amount.

An example of a clear breakdown

Illustrative format, not a quote: “Oil-change labour: [amount]; approved engine oil: [specification, quantity and amount]; oil filter: [part and amount]; total: [amount]. Additional work only after approval.” The figures depend on the car. This format makes it clear whether two offers include the same work without inventing a universal package price.

Ask how changes will be approved

A dismantled part may reveal wear that could not be confirmed beforehand. Ask the workshop to contact you with the findings and revised scope before additional work. Give a reliable contact method and say whether you need the vehicle by a particular date. An estimated completion date and an agreed appointment are different from guaranteed parts availability.

Compare the scope, not just the headline

For a larger job, compare the parts included, the work covered and any relevant follow-up checks. Ask which findings make a repair urgent and what can be planned later. If you want to supply your own parts, discuss this before buying: Autoservis 1 accepts them only by prior agreement and applies the labour surcharge shown in the price list.

What to send when requesting a quote

Include the make, model, year, engine if known, approximate mileage and the service needed. For a fault, explain when it occurs rather than naming a part you think has failed. For a planned replacement, mention the last documented work. Email an existing report if it helps; avoid sending unrelated personal information.

Frequently asked questions

Does “from CZK 400” mean the whole repair costs CZK 400?

No. It is the starting price for the described operation. Diagnosis, parts and repair may be separate items.

Can I approve the inspection before deciding on the repair?

Ask for the investigation scope and price first, then agree the repair after the findings have been explained.

Does this guide describe every Czech workshop’s terms?

No. Confirm the particular supplier’s quote and terms. The pricing examples above explain Autoservis 1’s published approach.

Discuss the next step
