Published 17 October 2026. General guidance; an inspection of your vehicle is still required.
The existing workshop image is illustrative; it does not document this specific fault. This guide cannot confirm whether your vehicle is safe to drive.
Which checks deserve priority?
Mention slow starting, dim lights, weak heating, braking changes or a tyre that loses pressure when booking. A seasonal appointment is not a reason to postpone a safety-related fault. Checks and routine maintenance can be planned together, but their scope should be agreed before work starts.
Battery, lights and visibility
Explain whether starting is worse after standing overnight or also after a longer drive. Battery condition and charging are separate questions; replacing a battery does not fix every starting problem. Check that the required lights work and describe poor headlight visibility. Headlight restoration is appropriate only where the condition of the lamp allows it, not as a cure for every lighting fault. Wipers and a suitable winter washer fluid also matter.
Coolant and tyres
Use the coolant specification in the vehicle instructions, not colour alone, when discussing a top-up. Have unexplained loss checked rather than repeatedly adding fluid. For tyres, consider their condition, your regular routes and whether you already own a complete winter set. Our separate winter-tyre guide covers seasonal fitting; this page is the wider maintenance checklist.
What to bring and how pricing works
Bring available service records and note mileage, recent repairs and unresolved symptoms. Say if you want tyre work at the same visit and whether the tyres are already on rims. There is no single winter-check price here: the workshop confirms the agreed checks and any additional work separately.
When not to drive to a seasonal appointment
Stop safely for a red warning, overheating, rapid fluid loss or a significant change in braking. Contact assistance or the workshop to discuss safe transport. A booking date does not establish that the car is safe to drive.
A useful service enquiry
Describe the symptom, when it occurs and any warning lights. Include the make, model, year and approximate mileage. Send relevant photographs or reports by email; the enquiry form does not accept attachments. Do not record or use your phone while driving.
